Lambda Gay Weddings has existed since 2000. Recently we felt a name change was appropriate. Thankfully, there seems to be a social shift toward calling gay weddings "gay weddings", or "lesbian weddings". So we are happily following that trend. When we originally created "Commitment Ceremonies", we felt that there was a need in society to promote gay and lesbian marriage. To make it a more normal everyday idea, to talk about it, and to give support to our community. At the time, we were just DJing Wedding receptions for straight people. As lesbians, we yearned to DJ lesbian and gay weddings. We started putting feelers out, were commitment ceremonies or weddings happening in our area, and how could we find these couples? So in an effort to reach gay and lesbian couples and promote their ceremonies and celebrations, we started www.commitment-ceremonies.com. We also started it because in looking for websites to list our services, there were only a handful. And the commercially oriented sites charged way too much for our little listing. It made us mad. We saw a nitch. So we started our website with very reasonable listing rates for vendors, a link exchange page, and steadily more valuable information. A few months later, the expensive site failed, and we kept growing. We're hanging in there for the long haul, and we have gained national notice and popularity. We also started to sell wedding invitations, and direct much of our marketing to gay couples, many of which we have assisted in finding the right wedding invitations from a lesbian business. We have also DJ'd several gay and lesbian weddings over the last 3 years. We love having a vehicle of change and support for our community.
